At this point, set the hat flat and place the bow where you’d like it to be. Mark the turns of the bow with stitch markers, like so:

Safety pins mark the turns of the bow. Note: This image was taken after the pattern was finished, your hat should not look this polished yet.

Round 9 hdc until the end of the bow (marker 4), if you haven’t reached it yet, sc and weave in galvanized wire rope until marker 1, sc to marker 2 without the wire, hdc to marker 3, sc until the marker 4 and fasten off. The purpose of the galvanized wire rope is to stiffen the brim of the hat so that it holds its shape. This is optional, but if you leave it out, the hat’s brim will be much flimsier.

Touchups

Weave in the ends of the yarn

The end of the galvanized wire rope with an attached end cap.

Trim off any excess wire and add end caps to both ends to secure the wire.

Safety pins mark where I secured the stitches of the bow to the side and brim of the hat.

Place the bow in your desired position and secure with small pieces of yarn

Hdc worked into stitches of the brim to create the center of the bow.
